What each control is for
Drawing
- ✛ navigate
- click moves the cursor, drag windows the image
- ✥ pan
- move the picture inside the panel; the cursor stays on the anatomy
- ⌕ zoom
- magnify about the middle of the panel
- ⬡ polygon
- click a boundary point by point; Esc fills it in. Click an existing mask to pull its outline up as amber draggable points and Esc redraws it. Axial only
- click, no tool
- with the tools down, clicking a mask picks it up: it becomes an outline and the polygon tool comes with it
- Del
- discard the outline, or — if a mask was picked up — remove it from this slice
- Shift + Del
- remove the whole three-dimensional lesion, not just this cross-section

- paint the mask, in millimetres of patient

The 3-D view
- Liver view
- everything at once for a portal-venous liver: solid, 80–160 HU, low opacity
- projection
- how the samples along each ray are combined. solid shows an organ · MIP (maximum intensity projection) the brightest thing along each ray · MinIP the dimmest · mean the average, and the only one whose greys are still Hounsfield units
- 3D band
- tissue outside this range of HU (Hounsfield units — the CT density scale, where water is 0 and air is −1000) is not in the reconstruction at all. Venous liver is ~105–117 HU; muscle 40–60; bone 250+
- opacity
- how much a millimetre of tissue stops the ray. Lower sees deeper into the organ
- cut
- discard the near side, in centimetres. The body wall and the liver are the same tissue by HU, so no band can separate them — this is what gets past it
- lesion list
- click a row to light that tumour and jump to it; click again to clear

- write the mask. Your ROLE decides which artifact it becomes

- finish the case. Reopening is allowed and recorded
